Very Last Blog

Well, its been fun. kinda. ok, so in the beginning blogging was ok but afterwards it was just kinda annoying. Anyway this is the very last blog I'll ever do for English 101. So don't go getting all teary eyed you people who fanatically read every single blog I post. (kidding. I know that population is nonexistent.) Anyhoo, I'm ready to get out of these classes, and get on with my life. So with Finals coming up, I suppose I'll leave my invisible population of readers with this one important quote in mind:
"80% of the final exam will be based on the one lecture you missed and the one book you didn't read." (http://www.basicjokes.com/)
Have a great winter break! :) :P ;)

Clean Clean Clean

I haven't cleaned my room in about 3 months. This week it developed a smell, and me and my roommate still haven't been able to find out where it's coming from. I personally think it was her 4 day old sesame chicken that was sitting in the microwave, but she thinks its a dead rat. I think it's time to do some cleaning.

EXAM TIME!

Its time for exams and that also means a time for stress. I have 5 exam I need to study for, and unfortunately one of them is on a Saturday. Ugh, it sucks! I have to stay until the 18th too. The only silver lining is that after all the exams, my super great mega break begins. I can't wait.

Burch Draft Revision Checklist

In revising this paper, I noticed that there were many grammatical errors I was intentionally unaware of. I think the introduction could be further expanded to give greater detail to what exactly my project is about. I also noticed that some of the points I attempted to make concerning the importance of the Sutherlandia Frutescens were repeated throughout the paper. This illustrates a lack of complete understanding of the plant, and that I need to think of more reasons we should invest time into this project. The sentence structure of some of my paragraphs are a bit choppy, and don’t flow well due to wordiness. I also noticed that my implementation of the project is a bit vague. I don’t really know the resources and tools I need, or exactly how to measure the effectively of the plant on AIDs patients. I also don’t know the time length required to fulfill this project. Finally, my conclusion is fairly weak. It only reiterates what I said initially in the paper; it does nothing to convince the audience to fund my academic project. Overall, the paper doesn’t capture the audience’s attention and the project itself isn’t presented clearly.

How bout That Chem Test?

I don't wanna talk about it...let's just say I'll be breaking out the Ben and Jerry's tonight. *sigh*

Charlie Brown!

So I'm a huge Charlie Brown fan. I worship every holiday movie special that was ever made. Every time the specials come on ABC I HAVE to watch them. Does anyone know when Charlie Brown a Christmas story comes on?

Facebook Stalking

What is the definition of Facebook stalking? Is there some standard? I think I might be guilty of this sometimes. :(

Thanksgiving

I'm so ready for Thanksgiving Break. I'm counting down the days. I've never needed a break as much as I do now. Ugh, I wish these two weeks would fly by so I can go home with no school worries!

Classes

So I totally forgot about this blog so I'm breaking the 1 blog a day rule (sorry! at least I'm doing it!) Im happy that I was able to register for all my classes, and next semester I'm done by 12 everyday, except for days I have lab. Joy.

nothing special

My hands have been so full with school that I really dont have time to post anything interesting or witty. So yeah. Back to studying and stuff. Still gotta finish my lab report and annotated bibliography and study for a final exam.

Burch Scholarship-Feeder 1

I think the Burch Scholarship mostly focuses on international studies. Most of the previous winners devoted time to something concerning different cultures and people. Most of the projects were study based; that is to say that the previous winners all took a problem or a situation and developed ways to better or further explore an area. I assume that Burch Scholarship winners must have previous study in the area they are basing their academic project on, and that they focus on making an impact on underdeveloped countries and culture. Some of the previous winners organized studies and established organizations that committed to helping the people in a certain aspect. The majority of the winners performed in depth study, and continued their studies after the scholarship. Overall, most of the studies established some fundamental change, whether it be in the participant or in their place of studying.
As an academic project, I believe I would like to do something concerning healthcare. I would like to perform an in depth study of the medicinal properties of certain vegetation of various regions. I would consider focusing on cultures that rely on plants and herbs to cure certain diseases. I would focus on the vegetation prevalent in either Africa or Australia. It would also be interesting to explore some cultures’ uses for plants in their society. It would be interesting to see how some of the less traditional medicines are used in practice. From this study, I could learn about what qualities give certain plants their medicinal properties, and possibly connect these observations to various drugs we have present in our society today. I would also like to explore the various dangerous and poisonous vegetations and their place in our culture. It would be interesting to study their toxic quality and effects on people.

I HATE PAPERS!!!

I have a jillion papers I need to finish by the end of this week. Jeez. I've been back from fall break less than a week and I'm already feeling overwhelmed. So ready for Thanksgiving break!

So Unfit!

UNC makes me feel so out of shape. You can't walk the campus without seeing somebody running, ipod in hand. My unfit-ness became obvious when I felt like I was dying by just attempting to run a mile. I'm getting better though- I recently started working out in Rams Gym and now I can actually run a mile and a half without walking! This might be small to all you athletes out there, but to me this is a major improvement!

So Cold!

It's finally gotten cold enough where I can't wear my short sleeve shirts without a hoodie. That makes me really sad, especially since I have an LFit class. I hate the cold- everytime I wake up, it's freezing in my dorm room. I'm ready for summer already!

Exams

So I haven't blogged in a while, and honestly I don't really have time for this one, with midterms coming up next week. Its been study, study, study nonstop, and I'm very tired of it. I can't wait till fall break so I can finally relax.

Unit 2 Feeder 1 Revised

In the video, Is Racism Fueling Protests? Howard Kurtz asks if the media is stimulating racism directed at Obama. Eric Deggons argues that the media should focus on Obama’s race for stories, in order to find where Obama hatred is stemming from. Deggons uses the hate mail and racial jokes about Obama to support his opinion. Deggons is good at keeping his voice, as made apparent by his brushing off of Amy Holme’s interruption, when he commented on President Carter’s statement. He doesn’t use a substantial amount of hard evidence, and at some points he tends to get off topic or avoid a question, such as when Kurtz questions him about his views on the critics of Obama.
Amy Holmes argues that the way the media portrays race doesn’t influence public opinion of Obama. She uses little hard evidence, one being the drop of support from Independents due to a story on race the Washington Post printed. To reinforce her argument, she points out previous experiences where the media overemphasized certain things, such as Bush and drug use. Holmes is very adamant and rude, which weakens her argument; at one point she attacks the Washington Post for publishing a story, with little evidence, claiming Obama’s race played a role in his opposition. At some points in the debate, Holmes tries to interrupt Deggons to counter his statement.
Chris Cillizza argues that the media has no choice but to run with the Obama and race stories, because it is interesting. Though the argument is substantial and his explanations sufficient, Cillizza provides little evidence to support his theory. Most of his views are opinionated; he states that race is “a part of the nation’s history” and creates ratings. Cillizza maintains a calm and slightly cynical demeanor, which helps to improve his argument.

Unit 2 Feeder 1

In the video, Is Racism Fueling Protests? Howard Kurtz asks if the media is taking Obama’s race too far. Eric Deggons argues that the media should focus on Obama’s race for stories, in order to find where such Obama hatred is stemming from. Deggons uses the hate mail and racial jokes about Obama’s presidency to support his opinion. Deggons is good at keeping his voice, as made apparent by his brushing off of Amy Holme’s interruption.
Holmes is very adamant and rude; at one point she attacks the Washington Post. She tries to out talk Kurtz when he is agreeing with her. At some points in the debate, Holmes tries to interrupt Deggons to counter his statement. Her argument is weakened by her abrasive attitude and lack of physical evidence.
Chris Cillizza argues that the media has no choice but to run with the Obama and race stories. Though the argument is substantial, Cillizza provides little evidence to support his theory. Though his explanation is sufficient, it offers no real answer to the initial question. Cillizza’s argument is weakened through the way he presents his evidence. He portrays a calm yet humorous demeanor throughout the whole debate.

Good Weekend Gone Bad

So the super awesome weekend I had all planned out is ruined. My high school friends can't make it up to Franklin to go club hoppin with me and my college friends. I had everything ready too: we were going to walk down Franklin first and boy hunt, then we were gonna hit up Bougaloo's, then maybe Player's, and finally we were gonna walk down Franklin some more. Poo. I'm starting to think that I'll never see any of my high school friends again...its so depressing.

Coldstone Cravings

So I've been officially off Coldstone for a week now. No relapses. I'm very proud of myself, though I've been feen'in for some Chocolate Devotion like a crackhead. Every time I walk down Franklin and see Coldstone, I start scratchin and gettin the shakes, like Tyrone Biggums from the Chappelle Show. Is it possible to be addicted to ice cream, cuz I might have a serious problem.

Ruined Weekend

So this weekend I'm stuck studying for Chemistry since I sucked so bad on the Exam. I just want to strangle everybody who says, "oh, that exam was so easy!" or "I made a 90 on mine!" I have just settled with the conclusion that I'm chemistry retarded. So yeah. No wild crazy parties for me this weekend. Studying till my head explodes. :( But next weekend yall can find me up in Bougaloo's with my girls from high school. :)

More Random Embarrasment

Alright time for round two:
*You're walking full speed trying not to be late for class and you walk straight into a door, thinking it's a push door when it's actually a pull.

*You're standing at Bougaloos or Players (whichever way you roll) chatting with your friends while subtly eyeing a fine guy up. He makes his way over to you, and begins flirting...with your friend.

*This one's kinda gross (my brother does it all the time...while I'm behind him. eww) You're browsing in a store and you accidentally let out a silent but smelly fart, so you leave the scene of the crime quickly while your noxious fumes gag everyone around you.
Anybody want to own up to any of these?

Random Embarrasment

Have you ever?
*when walking and you almost trip, you quickly try to play it off and look around to see if anyone saw you.

*when approaching someone you kinda know, they wave and you wave back, only to find out they were actually waving at the person behind you. You awkwardly play it off like you're stretching.

*When sitting next to someone, the person (in my case a cute boy) randomly starts talking, and you assume he's talking to you so you talk back. He/She looks at you like you're crazy and its
only then when you realize he/she has his/her Bluetooth headset in. No way outta that one.

These are random embarrassments that have happened to me several times (the last one happened twice. Both times in a elevator. Awkward) Similar experiences?

Classes and Exams

So Chemistry is still kicking my butt. Nothing new there. I went to my first official lab and all I got was this:
adfsaeafefettrfassdfdsfsggtrytjjyjyjikiyoiyuouo
So...yeah. Definitely failing that. Anyone wanna tutor? Besides Chemistry, I think my head's about to explode from all the studying/cramming I'm doing for exams. How do professors expect us to remember all of this information, considering we have several other classes? If someone can give me study tips, it would be greatly appreciated. Now I have to get back to Chemistry and my foul mood. yay.

Kanye Get a Life

I don't know if anyone already blogged about this, (though a gazillion did on Facebook yesterday) but did anyone catch the VMAs? I knew Kanye was a douche, but now he's on a whole new level of douchery-He's like the Lord of Douches! Being all mean to poor Taylor Swift! And FYI, Beyonce is not all that and a bag of chips. (I mean, she married Jay Z. JAY Z!!! He's not even cute!) So, yeah. There's my rant for the day. Oh, and for all you guys who say that it was all just a big publicity stunt, way to ruin the fun. Bravo Buzz Killingtons. (though you're probably right)

Get out of my Head

For some reason I get the weirdest songs stuck in my head. Yesterday it was the Sesame St. theme song, and today it's Ice Cream Paint job. Ugh, I hate when this happens! I'll have the song in my head forever, and then when I start nodding my head to the beat, people think I'm crazy. Artist should stop making their songs so catchy! Stupid mind control!

You can't Spell Chemistry Without Misery

Well. Just bombed another Chem lab quiz. Fun. Why is Chemistry lab sooooo hard! Even when I study hard until my head explodes, I still bomb the quizzes. (which are EVIL!) Is anybody having as much trouble as me in this class, or am I just slow? In high school, Chemistry was easy for me-study and do your homework and you could pass. I was never one of those perfect grade crazed freaks who cried when they made a bad grade, but my parents are. It seems as if once you get into college, the classes' difficulty increase exponentially. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to get out of there with only a D, and a pair of unhappy parents. Joy.

Hip Hop Murder

With so many fans of hip hop today, I can't help but to overhear conversations on how great Lil Wayne is, or how much of a legend Jay Z has become. I'll admit that current rappers are fairly good, (with some exceptions*cough*Soulja Boy*cough*Gucci Mane. Gucci Mane's songs are OK and catchy, but the boy can't really rap. Just saying) but none of them are on the same scale as the Great Ones (aka Tupac, B.I.G., NWA, and the list goes on...) Those rappers had style, their lyrics had meaning, and you could dance yo a** off to everything they dropped. Nowadays, rappers deliver a catchy song, but they're always about the same thing. It's always about women, alcohol, partying, and having 20 inch rims. Its generic, mindless, drabble, but it's also generic, mindless, drabble that we all purchase. (or bootleg. Just saying)

Track Disaster

I didn't think I was too out of shape; I was never that person who always came in last in every race, and I was certainly not the person who no one wanted on their dodge ball or basketball team. But when I tried out for track team on a whim (it wasn't really a try out-everyone who came made the team) I realized just how bad I was. When you're being lapped by the shot putters, then you probably don't belong there in the first place. It was my first experience in not being successful in something, and it was kinda hard. (mostly embarrassing-I tripped on a hurtle twice) It wasn't a worthless experience though; it taught me two things: you can't always win at everything, and running up hills are hard.

Dance Dance Deevolution

Does anyone ever think that these dance songs are a little weird? When Soulja Boy Tellem released his Soulja Boy dance song, everyone and I mean everyone was doing this hip hop line dance, even though when you think about it, it was kinda stupid (When you see people doing this dance at baseball games, then you know you've got a problem). Since then, there has been an increasing epidemic of hip hop dance songs. Walk it out, Bird Walk, Pop Lock and Drop it,(Don't act like you don't know these songs-I bet at least one of these songs is on your ipod right now!) and my personal fav, the Stanky Leg (that sounds pleasant, doesn't it?) have all hit the masses with a gigantic force. Is this a good thing? If you don't mind looking like a river dancer hyped up on crack, then go ahead-dance man, dance!

Chicken Water

I recently went with my roommate to Cluck-U Chicken on Franklin Street. I was very disappointed with the taste of the chicken, not to mention the emptiness of my wallet thereafter. The chicken was so flavorless that I started to question whether or not it was actually chicken. WTF? Franklin Street needs to get better chicken joints that actually appeal to students and visitors. (and this is not just the mad rantings of a black woman obsessed with chicken)

WTF???

Lol. lmao. JK. Its funny how lazy society has become that we have to use shortcuts for phrases. Whether on Facebook, MySpace, or through text messaging, younger generations are constantly using these acronyms in everything, and I mean everything. I'm not saying anything is wrong with this new trend, (seeing as I constantly tag every text message I send with LOL. Annoying right?) but when people start saying BTW or my personal fav, t^4y (time to talk to you-from Not Another Teen Movie) in everyday conversation, then I think we're starting to get a little carried away. The fact that Trey Songz can make a million dollars off of a song by just repeating LOL Smiley Face ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUl-AUPWQo4) a billion times might be a clue that we've taken things too far.
(: I actually love that song though...it's catchy! :)
